Ukraine was asked, then demanded to become part of Russian territory in 2014. Ukraine refused, but Russia wouldn’t let them refuse. For the past decade, they have been at war, with Russia’s need to absorb Ukraine into its territory again.
Russia had set a full-scale invasion on Ukraine in 2022. They have been planning and preparing to get a membership for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but the group has been reluctant to let them in because they want to be ready for war with Russia.
Currently in the war, Ukraine has been dealing massive blows. They have taken over Russia’s Kursk region, a powerful bargaining chip in the war. They have also been sending drones that bombed southwestern Russia in late September this year, specifically on an ammo depot. They have also recently received their first F-16, a fighter aircraft known as the most versatile and successful in the world.
Ukraine has also launched another attack. They have charted a flight path to a Russian city that would have their drones be the most discreet and undetectable, however, as an extra precaution, they are sending decoy drones specifically made with foil on their wings off the flight path to distract the Russians.
The foil makes the drone more likely to be detected by Russian artillery and to be shot down, creating a false sense of security and a distraction. The real drones have 500-pound warheads that are sure to deal a large blow to the city.
Russia has had frequently used guided glide bombs, which are dangerous on their own, but also cruise missiles meant for shooting down aircraft now are trained on Ukrainian cities. They have also started to use kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles, showing how dangerous and ready they are to pull out the big guns.
We still have no idea how this war will end. Both Russia and Ukraine aren’t ready to give up quite yet, through sheer force of will.
