Operation Sindoor. Does that name mean anything to you? Well, it’s the name of the Indian v. Pakistan War, which, is currently in a ceasefire. But will this become a full-on war?? India is in a state of alert in case Pakistan attacks. Trump also keeps making claims and boasting that he is the one who made or created the ceasefire, adding insult to injury for India, making India frustrated. India’s immovable position is that its dispute with Pakistan Kashmir, which dates to 1947, is an internal issue that should have no outside interference or third-party negotiations. But in disregard for this, Trump offered, post-ceasefire, to find a “solution”, which is also a source of frustration for India, considering that Pakistan rushed to the chance.
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Government after a terrorist attack that killed 26 men (April 22), two weeks after the attack, widowing many Hindu women. Sindoor, or vermilion powder, is a traditional marker that shows whether a Hindu woman is married. Married Hindu women wear it on their foreheads or the parting of their hair- but if they become widowed, they must wipe it off. During the April 22 terrorist attack, many women lost their husbands, who were targeted because they were Hindu. India and Pakistan declared a ceasefire on May 10th, ending four days of military conflict.
Currently, residents in India and Pakistan are scared for what will come and hope this conflict will end. One article suggests a possible nuclear war between India and Pakistan, also saying, “If war breaks out in earnest, it won’t stay local. It would convulse the global energy market, destabilize already fragile Muslim-majority states and force the U.S. into an impossible strategic corner”. The ceasefire proposed by the U.S. has paused the conflict, with civilians in Pakistan claiming victory and celebrating.
