Do you like politics or elections? Well, our own Blaine elections for ASB are coming up! All you do is listen to the candidate’s speeches, and then after, you go back to class to vote on who you think should that candidate for each role should be. Everyone from 5th– 7th grade can vote but only 6th and 7th graders can enter the election. The council member roles are treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president. The duration depends on the number of candidates and how long their speeches are. One good thing about being on ASB is that you get good public speaking practice.
One of the most surprising things about this year’s election is how many students sign up to be a candidate. Many 7th graders sign up, for many different roles and only a few 6th graders sign up.
I interviewed Cora Stonebreaker former secretary of 2024-2025 and I asked her some questions about ASB and what they did. She said, “some of the things she does is help plan dances, some assembly’s (if you are in leadership), announcements, budget, and provisions”. One of my favorite things about ASB is that the raise money to have more activities and send 8th graders to camp Orkila. Also, a plus to being in ASB is you get leadership and are guaranteed 1st semester and maybe even 2nd semester.
Somethings ASB is looking for in someone is someone who is able to control themselves and is open to feedback and is able to get up and do their job and follow through not just sit back and relax just because you are on the council and the whole school picked you to do one job and that is to make the school a better place.
In conclusion, if you are interested in these types of topics this election is perfect for you. Sadly, the signup window has closed but next year is your year.
