Have you heard about this year’s Blaine Art Show that is all about midnight gardens? This year’s art class is excited to show Blaine all the projects they’ve been working on. The 7th and 8th grade can’t wait to show you what their class has worked on many fun and creative projects such as photography, which includes selfies of the students, and anything photographed that represents them. Like years before, the art students went on a walking field trip around Magnolia taking photos with the theme Beauty in Decay. You may have seen in the hallway the macro botanical pastel, but if you haven’t some will for sure be there. Another project to keep an eye out for is the multi canvas acrylic, where students picked out online photos and abstracted them to the paint with effects. Some art students shared their opinions on this semester’s art class. Three eighth graders from art have shared with me their thoughts on this year’s art projects.
“What’s your favorite thing about art?”
George: “Expressing yourself.”
“What do you look forward working on in art?”
George: “Creative Journal, where you use an old book and fill it up with art”
“What’s your proudest creation?”
George: “Sewing Elmo during the art project of sewing stuffies.”
A common favorite art project that I picked up when going around interviewing eighth graders is that creative journal seems to be their highlight in art. Creative journals is similar the idea of “wreck this book” if you’ve heard of that which is just as it seems, adding magazines cutouts, splashes of paint, collages and many more ideas to an old book. Here’s what Mila (an 8th grader in art class) had to say about her creative journal project.
“Looking back on art throughout the years what’s your favorite art project”
Mila: “Probably my creative journal because it got chosen for this year’s Naramore art show”
“How do you like to spend your time in art?”
Mila: “Working on creative journal while talking with friends.”
Mila mentioned she’s been in art three times and it’s one of her favorite electives to take.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders throughout this year have worked so hard on all the projects and couldn’t have the opportunity without Ms. Goulart. Whatever’s happening in art at Blaine is always worth checking out either in the halls hung up or displayed at the art show. Artwork at Blaine is a testament to the students’ hard work and the vibrant spirit of art and something worth celebrating.
