The Seattle Torrent is the new PWHL (Professional Women’s Hockey League) team for Seattle. On April 30th, 2025, it was announced that Seattle would get its very own PWHL team, and the team would play home games at Climate Pledge Arena. As everyone already knows, Seattle’s NHL team is the Seattle Kraken. They first came to Seattle in 2021, and over 4 years later we finally have a women’s professional hockey team to represent us. Seattle hockey nation is proud to have the Seattle Torrent as a new addition.
On October 23rd, 2021, the Seattle Kraken played their first home game in Climate Pledge Arena. Over 4 years later, the Seattle Torrent would have played their first game on November 28th, 2025. The hockey community has grown tremendously since the introduction of the Kraken in 2018. I asked a few huge hockey fans in the middle school cohort about their thoughts on the Torrent coming to town. Lets see what they have to say about the new PWHL team…
I started by asking Hanna M, an 8th grader, some questions about the Seattle Torrent as she is a long-time hockey fan. It is clear she is stoked for a women hockey team to represent our community.
“Hanna, you’ve been watching the Kraken ever since their first season, right?”-Teagan, 8th
“Yes, I’ve been watching since their first season, it’s been amazing to see the teams growth!”-Hanna M, 8th
“So, is it exciting to watch a PWHL team at Climate Pledge Arena?”-Teagan, 8th
“I am so excited to watch the new PWHL team! As a woman and as a hockey fan I am excited for them to show off their skills!” Hanna M, 8th
With a professional women’s team playing in Seattle, it is clear the players will have a massive impact among little girls who skate, play hockey, and they might even light a spark in girls to try out this beloved sport.
Next, I asked Neil, an 8th grader who plays hockey and is one of the biggest hockey fans at Blaine about the new PWHL team.
“Neil, I know you are a huge Kraken fan. Is it thrilling to finally have a women professional hockey (PWHL)team representing Seattle?”-Teagan, 8th
“It is so cool to have a women hockey team in Seattle. We already have a men’s hockey team, and it is good that we have more hockey and Seattle. Go Kraken!”-Neil, 8th
As a HUGE hockey fan myself, I can tell I am going to love the Seattle Torrent. The Seattle hockey fan base has flourished in the past few years, and I cannot wait for the Torrents with their captain Hilary Knight to represent Seattle’s hockey face.
Now, as a fellow student at Blaine, I would like to invite you to go to watch Torrents. Women hockey is going to become a huge and influential part of Seattle and further grow our city (and even Washingtons) love and support for women’s sports.
“Are you excited that Seattle finally has its very own PWHL team?”-Teagan, 8th grade
