Middle School Book Recommendations
We all at some point read a book that was really good and sometimes go into a rabbit hole to find out what series it’s from or what other books the author has written. There are a lot of books that are amazing to read, but which books today are a good read? Well, I’ve asked some middle school students what their favorite books are and why. Also, what their favorite genre is.
I first interviewed Harlow and here is her response.
Me: “What’s your favorite book?”
Harlow: “My favorite book is Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech.
Me: Why?
Harlow: I like it because it’s a pretty good story about A girl named Sal and her trip to Idaho with her grandparents. Her grandparents ask her to tell them a story, so she decides to tell them a story about her friend Phoebe. Phoebe’s tale is very interesting because her mother disappears and Phoebe’s imagination can run away with her and make her think of very interesting things, like lunatics.”
Me: “What’s your favorite genre?”
Harlow: “My favorite genre is realistic fiction because it feels very real to me and I like that about it. I also like Historical fiction because I like learning about history, but it still has fiction elements.”
Next, I interviewed Olga and i got to know her favourites.
Me: “Hi Olga, what’s your favorite book?”
Olga: “My favorite book is probably Small Spaces by Katherine Arden because of the suspense and all the mystery. I read it in 6th grade and after reading it, I read the rest of the quartet. It really hooks you in, and the plot is so good and spooky. I recommend reading Dead Voices, too (It is part of the quartet). It was a good read about a girl named Olivia and her two friends going on a field trip to a farm with her class. The farm is creepy and mysterious. What happens next is unexpected, suspenseful and results in tragedy, getting lost in the woods.”
Me: “That sounds interesting. Well, what is your favorite genre?”
Olga: “My favorite genre is mystery and horror”
Later I interviewed Ada and here is her response.
Me: “Hi Ada, what is your favorite book?”
Ada: “My favorite book isn’t a singular book but a favorite series, and my favorite is Keeper of the Lost cities by Shannon Messenger. I love this book so much because of the many plot twists and amazing details this book has. If you haven’t read it, it follows the story of a girl, taken from her home to live with the elves where she learns. She is an elf too and also has magical powers”
Me: “That sounds very interesting. Can you tell me what your favorite genre is?”
Ada: “My favorite genre is fantasy since there are so many possibilities of what can happen and often the genre has many long books and is often a book series”
Me: “Thanks Ada, that is very insightful.”
All of these recommendations and genres are super good. Now we know some really good ones from suspense to fantasy. I really love to read a suspense book, and my recommendation is “Every time I go on a vacation, someone dies” by Catherine Mack. I loved it for keeping me on edge and the plot twists. I would put it in the category of romance and murder mystery.
