Have you ever made an owl out of paper? Flower bookmarks? Or spent hours on getting the perfect paper folds? Well, I know someone who has.
Today I interviewed 8th grader named Claire on all thing’s crafts. Claire is an 8th grader who often makes all sorts of crafts as a hobby. For the last year, she’s been getting really good at what she does spending up to a full day making these little crafts for herself and her family. She also taught me how to make a paper crane that we wrote a tutorial about. So now here is our interview!
(Me) “Okay. So, you’re telling me about how you craft a lot,
and like it seems that you do different types of crafts, but what is your favorite craft?”
(Claire) “It really varies, but I like paper crafts.
I once made a pop-up card for my grandparents the other day,
and a paper owl for my brother.”
It seems that Claire really enjoys making crafts for her family members and will find any excuse to be creative! She was telling me that the pop-up card was a thank you for a cricket she got from them. Other times it’s just that she saw something cool and wanted to do it, for example the paper owl. She also was telling me how crafts are easy gifts for people.
(Me) “Where did you learn to craft?
Like did someone teach you or did you learn by yourself?”
(Claire) “My family has always encouraged me to be like
creative and use the creative part of my brain.
So, I think that’s helped a lot.”
(Me) “So none of your family does crafts?”
(Claire) “They could if they wanted, but they don’t really.
Also, I have really good attention to detail and
I’m really observant so that helps me.”
Claire also told me about how she has been crafting for about a little over a year. When I asked her what the messiest part of crafting, she said that having all her supplies spread around her desk is really messy and that she often forgets to clear off her desk. She said it helps to clean while working. Also, she gave me a pro tip about glue, Glue sticks dry faster than regular liquid glue and also its less messy!
(Me) “What is your most favorite craft you’ve ever done?”
(Claire) “I really liked these bookmarks
I made for my writing group, there these really
cool muti layer bookmarks.
I made them with this floral
design ad it was just really cool.”
There is also a staff member in our building who is really good at crafts, Ms. Elaine! I also did a quick interview with her and got some of her expertise.
(Me) “Okay what type of crafts do you usually do?”
(Ms. Elaine) “Um i do a lot I’m just going to say jewelry though.”
(Me) “Ok, who do you usually make your crafts for?”
(Ms. Elaine) “Usually myself, I’ve also sold some of them.”
(Me) ” When did you start crafting?” and “Where did you learn how to craft?”
(Ms. Elaine) “I’ve taken classes,
I’ve also done craft camps with some of the younger kids,
(K-3), and I do it with them.”
(Me) “What is the messiest and hardest part of doing paper crafts?”
(Ms. Elaine) “Um, I guess cleaning up right? also putting stuff
together and holding things in place.”
(Me) “Ok! perfect thank you!”
Overall paper crafts are really fun, creative and simple, if your ever bored you should defiantly start crafting, you will get better over time. Like Claire told us, these crafts are really easy gifts, and you can make them at home, Claire even taught me how to make a paper crane in only like 15 minutes. So, if you’re bored and have nothing to do, definitely try it out!
