On November 22nd, the Blaine Girls soccer team played in the K-8 division city championship! Coming into this game, they had a record for the season of 7-0(7 wins 0 loses). For the past 3 years, Blaine has won the championship and they wanted to make it 4. For the 8th graders who have been on the team since 6th grade, they really wanted another championship win under their belt. Winning 1 championship for soccer in middle school is difficult, but winning one every year! VERY unlikely.
Blaine played STEM, a team that has never made it to the championship. They were hungry to beat us, and all of the STEM community wanted us to lose our streak too. But Blaine was not going to have that.
The game started off with nervous, intense energy as the two teams played in a stadium with over 100 fans. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, our very own Hiatt (8th) scored off a beautiful corner from Annie (8th) which was assisted by Bella (6th). I had the pleasure of interviewing Hiatt on what it felt like to score a goal in the championship. It was also her first goal of the season!
“What was it like scoring your first goal of the season in the championship?” -Teagan (8th)
“It felt really good especially because it was my first goal of this season. And the fact that it was the first goal of the championship game made me feel so proud of myself and our team and how everyone did their part so well. I’m so glad I got to share that moment with everyone.” -Hiatt (8th)

After the opening goal to the championship, the Blaine girls were hungry for more. As they played through the first half, fouls including some yellow cards were given out to the players. The ref was not having it, but the players did not agree with the refs poor calls as some were barely even fouls. At this point, Blaine needed to score. The game was to close to slow down and lose the aggressive energy. So, about halfway through, Brooke M. (6th) scored a tap in goal to give Blaine the 2-0 lead. As a 6th grader, this is quit an exciting feat. I interviewed her on her feelings about scoring in the championship. Lets see what she has to say…
“How did you feel after scoring the game winning goal during the championship?” -Teagan (8th)
“I felt really happy and was super proud of myself for getting the winning goal as a 6th grader.” -Brooke M. (6th)

Cora is an 8th grader who has been on the girls soccer team since 6th grade. I got the opportunity to ask her a question on how it has felt to win so many championships.
“How does it feel to have won a championship title every year in your middle school soccer career?” -Teagan (8th)
“It feels great, I feel like I have really got to connect with all of our 8th graders through out our years of wins.” -Cora (8th)
By the end of the game, a total of 3 yellow cards were given out, 3 total goals were scored, and Blaine had secured their 4th championship in a row. The 6th graders experienced their first championship win, some of the 7th graders also experienced their first championship win. And as for the 8th graders, they are leaving the Blaine soccer world providing at least 50 goals and 3 championship wins for the Blaine girls soccer legacy. Lets just hope next year with this years 8th graders leaving, the team can provide many more wins, and hopefully more championship wins. Congratulations to the team with your 2-1 win against STEM!
