Basketball has officially started! As you already know, Blaine has lots of sports that happen different times of the year. So far, in the fall we had co-ed ultimate frisbee, and girls soccer. Currently in the winter, Blaine has ski bus and basketball for girls and boys.
Blaine is an extremely strong sport school for being so small. Their are about 150 students in the middle school cohort, and a good chunk play basketball. So many kids tried out that the coaches for the boys teams had to cut a few people. Meanwhile, there were no cuts for girls basketball. But that does not mean it was any less competitive; there was still varsity to make.
I got the chance to interview a 7th grader, Josie. It is her first year on varsity basketball, so I asked her how she’s feeling about being on the team.
“How are you feeling about being on varsity this year?”-Teagan, 8th
“I feel good about it. I am really happy I am on varsity, it is a lot of work though because we are going to be in the tournament this year so we have to be ready for that.”-Josie, 7th
From previous years, Blaine has brought home the championship trophy. The trophy and the champion title is what every team works towards the whole season. From Camille’s experience playing basketball all 3 years, I asked her if she thinks the girls varsity team can win the championship title this year. Lets so what she has to say…
“Do you think your team will win the championship?”-Teagan, 8th.
“I believe we will, we have a pretty strong team and good lineups. And good coaches, like my mom and Mike.”-Camille, 8th.
Hearing from Camille it seams that the girls varsity team with be very strong competitors this season. Hopefully they can bring another trophy home.
“Is your team prepared for your next game?”-Teagan, 8th
“I think we have a little more preparation to do before we start, I mean we are not still fully coordinated yet.”-Oliver, 7th
Sounds like the boys JV team is still finding their groove. Hopefully they can pull through with their skills and provide Blaine a strong season record.
“How do you think you are going to do in the first game of the season?”-Teagan, 8th.
“I think we are going to do really good, and I am really excited about our team. We are going to do great.”-Eleanor, 7th.
For the girls varsity team, they won their first game of the season 56-15 against Broadview Thompson. Their current record is 1-0(1 win, 0 loses). They boys varsity also has a record of 1-0 as they won against Pathfinder 32-19. Both girls and boys JV has yet to play their first game of the season.
It is exciting to hear how all the teams are feeling confident about their seasons. Lets hope the JV and Varsity teams can rack up a bucket load of points to win all of their games. Blaine has a very strong basketball reputation, and we would like to keep it going. Personally as I do not play basketball, it will be even more exciting for me to hear about how the teams are doing. I am very confident in them to win both championships. And if they do get to the championships, I will definitely go. You should too!
Is basketball your favorite sport?
