Coming up this week, we have basketball tryouts! Yes, that’s right, Blaines boys’ and girls’ basketball season is just starting up, and I’m very excited for the season. Tryouts are held in our gym, for boys, tryouts are on Tuesday and Thursday, and for girls, it’s on Wednesday and Friday. Make sure you are clear, or else you are unable to tryout this season, and who wants to miss basketball!? Not me for sure.
If you are stressed out about tryouts, please don’t be. After this season I have played all 3 years of middle school, so I’ve already been to tryouts twice. Here’s what to expect.
First you need to bring the essentials, such as basketball shoes, water, a good attitude, and whatever clothes you intend, but I recommend shorts and a T-shirt, very simple, and looks neat on a basketball player.
While at tryouts, it feels just like a practice, drills, games, and scrimmaging. We are instructed on what to do and how to do it from the coaches of course. The coaches this year for the girls are Jamie, James Mike Kate, and for the boys Ms. Emma and Brittny. The coaches then watch while deciding what’s best for you as a player. We then wait until Friday for the boys, and Monday for the girls.
For all the 8th graders this is a big year, I say this because it’s our last year of middle school basketball, so of course it’s sad but it’s also exciting! That’s because, we want to do extra good, and it’s our final reps before high school. But sad because it’s the last time we’ll be playing for middle school, with our friends from 8th grade but also even 6th and 7th grade.
But all and all said, hopefully this season is going to be a blast for both the boys and girls. Go tigers!
