Do you think you could solve these riddles? We asked 4 middle school students to attempt to solve a handful of riddles we found on the internet. 

  1. Davids’s father had three sons: Snap, Crackle, and _______? 

7th grader Olivia: Pop.  

7th grader Lucy: David. Correct! 

8th grader Ruby: David. Good. 

7th grader Sam: Pop. 

Answer: David. 

2. Why is Europe like a frying pan? 

Olivia: Why would I know?  

Ruby: Because it looks like one? Does it? 

Sam: I give up.  

Answer: because there’s Greece at the bottom. 

3. A cowboy rode into town on Friday. He stayed for 3 nights then rode out on Friday. How is this possible? 

Olivia: It’s not. 

Lucy: The horse’s name is Friday. Right. 

Ruby: The horse’s name is Friday. 

Sam: The horse is named Friday. 

Was this too easy? 

Answer: The horses name was Friday 

4. What is 3/7 chicken, 2/3 cat, and 2/4 goat? 

Olivia: A wolf that ate all three. Creative. 

Lucy: CHERYL. No comment. 

Ruby: an animal.  

Sam: Ben. Again, no comment. 

The correct answer is Chicago. 

5. How can you drop a raw egg from a height onto a concrete floor without cracking it? 

Olivia: You evaporate the egg. Sure.  

Lucy: It’s hard to crack a concrete floor. Correct! 

Ruby: Hard boil it. We said it was raw. 

Sam: magic. Sure. 

6. Whomever makes it has no need for it. Whoever buys it has no use for it. Whoever uses it can neither see nor feel it. What is it? 

Olivia: Flowers. 

Lucy: This is why I am in study skills. No comment. 

Ruby: Business skills. 

Sam: A coffin. Correct! 

7. Four cars come to a four way stop, each coming from a different direction. They cannot decide who got there first so they all go forward at the same time. All four cars go but none crashed into each other. How is this possible? 

Olivia: Some of them turn. Correct! 

Lucy: They all turn to the right. Right. 

Ruby: They are mini cars, so they do not crash. 

Sam: Idk. 

8. What is the longest word in the dictionary? 

Olivia: Smiles because there is a mile in between each s. Right! 

Ruby: Hoonapoonameenameena. No comment. 

Sam: Word.
