What is The Best Subject?

What is the best subject? This question has been asked many times before throughout all the grades that anyone can imagine. After interviewing several middle schoolers (grades six, seven and eight) we have found several patterns for some of the most liked subjects and we will be able to settle the debate for now.

First, let’s explain who was interviewed and what they were asked. Then we can move on to the answers of those interviewed. I interviewed 2 sixth graders, 3 seventh graders and 3 eighth graders whose names will remain anonymous. I asked,

  1. Over the years of being in school what has been your favorite subject?
  2. What have you like about said subject?
  3. What is your favorite memory of the subject?
  4. What has been your favorite project?
  5. Who was your favorite teacher of the subject?

Overall, we had Science, (with one point) ELA, (with two points) Math, (with two points) and History, (with a whopping three points). Many people enjoyed history for having lots of different topics and projects or math for being very relevant in day-to-day life. I also compared these answers to those of the internet. According to thetopten.com the most liked subject was math for mostly the same reasons as the interviewed said, and according to thehealthyjournal.com the most liked subject was history with math and ELA being tied for second.

The eight graders had a slight disagreement as well as including some answers such as “learning about past events that influenced our life today” as one of my favorites and “because I’m good at it” as one that I’m having a tough time writing about. The seventh graders didn’t agree either having a wide range of answers including writing memoirs for three and learning about the rock cycle for four. The sixth graders kept the streak of not agreeing, only agreeing that their favorite projects both include drawing and being creative.

Hopefully these questions and answers will help you enjoy your favorite subjects more or help you find one if you don’t have one. Everyone should enjoy at least something about school even if it wasn’t mentioned in this article like lunch or just being with friends.
