How Are 8th Graders Feeling About Graduating?

The end of the 2022-2023 school year is right around the corner and 8th graders will soon be taking the next step by leveling up to high school. Promotion is on June […] and we encourage anyone to join to send off our new freshman. I went around to ask current 8th graders to see how they are feeling about graduating and high school.

Person: Tom

Highschool they will be attending: Ballard

How are you feeling about graduating 8th grade:

I don’t know, it’s a lot. Doesn’t feel like a lot for many but we’ve been here for 9 years so its different.

What are you excited for in high school:

To meet new people. No offense to people now but I’m sick of them. To see people from past year, like the 8th graders from last year and the 50-minute lunch period

What are you nervous for in high school:

I’m not nervous about much. I’m more excited than anything. I’ll be nervous the first day with all the new people but that’s about it. I guess that’s just not the way I look at it.

What advice do you give to incoming 8th graders:

It’s your last year, be the leaders of the school. Not much advice to give. People look up to you so be that role model.

What has been the best part of 8th grade?:

The Ingraham walk out

What has been the worst part of 8th grade:

No upperclassman. You can learn things from upperclassmen plus they’re easier to talk to.

How are you feeling about graduating 8th grade:

It’s pretty big, graduating 8th grade and heading to high school it’s pretty scaring, lots of new people. It’s gonna be cool though, lots of new people and opportunities

What are you excited for in high school:

I’m excited for all the different classes you can take an that there are so many different activities and clubs

What are you nervous for in high school:

I’m nervous because it’s gonna be so different from Blaine. High schools are different, and I won’t know anyone

What advice do you give to incoming 8th graders:

That you shouldn’t feel nervous about high school in 8th grade. Live as an 8th grader to the last minute

What has been the best part of 8th grade so far:

I don’t know, I mean the feeling of being confident in middle school. 6th grade was intimidating but now I know what to do

What has been the worst part of 8th grade so far:

Everything is getting harder, having to do new things, and knowing that this is the last year here.
